I purchased a new laptop recently with Windows 8 and loaded my AE Version 6.2.2 disc onto it. It seems to working fine. I am going to update my subscription soon, so I can add the Version 11.0 to cover my wife's Edge. My DP Tuner Device Utility for my F6 chip also works fine with Windows 8.
You need to start by "upgrading" your new computer by formatting it and throwing that Windows 8 crap out the...uh...window.
Put Windows 7 on it and be a much happier person.
I just don't get why people (or Microsoft in particular) feel the need to change things that work. I would say put XP on it, but I doubt you'd come close to finding any or all of the drivers that would work properly.
Progression:
Windows 95 - Good.
Windows 98 - Sucked eggs.
Windows 98 2nd Edition - Good.
Windows ME - Holy crap...GARBAGE.
Windows XP - FANTASTIC.
Windows Vista - Fecal abortion.
Windows 7 - Not great, but works good.
Windows 8 - Mierda.

Yo sé lo que quieres decir. There are some things about 8 that I don't like, but figured I give it a try. It came with it. I still might got back "one". It took a little getting used to 7, but I can tolerate it now.

So you're saying (in Spanish) that Windows and Star Trek movies have the same syndrome. Even for the big plane and odd for the big pane. This means we can all look forward to Windows 9, eh?
Can you put AE on those small note books or kindle fires? Im looking for something smaller and lighter.
My experience, so far, has been that AE will run on any Windows OS, but not on the Kindle OS. I believe that AE V11.x software is designed to run on W8.
FWIW, I think OS preference is like people...as different as people are, their preference for OS's are different. I see Windows 8 as the logical extension of MS heading towards a more "Mac-like" GUI. I go back to the DOS days and then used 95, 98, and Xp...I feel W8 is a big step up towards an app-based OS. Stable as heck and easy to customize. The added advantage, for me, is that it operates so similar to Mac OS that I don't feel lost on the Macs the few times I have to use a Mac.
I have had vista on one of my computers for years and it is as good as 7 on my laptop. You just have to have enough ram. 16 gigs seems to the job. XP was good but it still had its issues.
I can say first hand that there are issues with version 10.3 and windows 8. I have updated to version 11 and firmware 35, but have not scanned truck yet. I will update results for those interested.
