I have a 99 e-150 wheelchair van with an auxiliary battery. It sat in cold CT. weather for 3 weeks. When my wife tried to start it no go, dead. Switched to auxiliary battery and there was not enough power to crank it over. I got it jump started and it was ok until trying to start it 3 days later. Main battery no power, switched to auxiliary and there was just enough power to start it. This originally started about 4 weeks ago. Today my wife went to start it and both batteries where dead. it seemed during that 4 week period if the van was ran every 2 day it kept a charged. The battery is a year old Advanced Auto Silver. The auxiliary is over 6 years old. My question is will I have to fully charge the battery before I bring it to A.A. for a test. I hope this ain't a dumb question but can the battery be charged while it's still hooked up. Or if it's jump started again and run on the highway of an hour will that be enough for an accurate test. BTW I know it's not the alternator because the lights never dim.

Charge them overnight on a small 10 amp or so charger. Give them the best chance you can, and if they fail, then they are bad. You can charge them when they are still hooked up.

Thanks Frank, The answer above yours was confusing.
how old are the batteries? When was the last time someone checked the water level in them?..
The main battery is an A.A. Autocraft silver. 1 year old. The last A.A. was the model below (economy) and lasted 6 years. No explaints here. I got the 123.00 Silver for 100.00 after the prorating, Not bad concidering only 1 year left.
I'll keep you guys posted with the out come.
Oh, this is very strange. I thought maintence free batteries meant no playing around with water levels anymore.
