Hi all,
I have a 92 Aerostar and i'm thinking about swapping out tires and rime with 15" alloys off a 98 Contour i'm parting out. The tires on the Contour are a lower profile tire, the total outside diamater is the same as the Aerostar 14" so clearance shouldn't be a problem. Is there any benefit or downfall to doing this ? The rims on the Contour look better and have newer tires on them. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Yeah, first off the offset has to be correct, I was not aware that Contours used a 5 lug rim, but I haven't seen a Contour in a while. The tires off a contour are not weight rated to handle an Aerostar, so not only will your ride quality suck, but the tires won't last very long and aren't safe either.
You are better off running 15" rims off an Explorer and some slightly taller profile tires, like those listed on this forum. Thats what I elected to do, it looks better, the ride quality is improved, the road noise went down, and the weight handling capacity is improved.
The Contour wheels will NOT fit. The bolt patterns are completely different. As for the tires, the overall diameter is compatible but they will be like Khan said.
