Edge Settings.. question please!!!

Hello. I have a 4.6 w/ 35s. stock gearing (i know i know... should regear)

It shifts a LOT.. The slightest incline and its shifting... and it revs pretty high before it shifts.

I have no tuning experience. I'm on level 2 right now running 89... I've entered the correct tire size into the edge.

Question - anything I can do to get it to chill out on the shifting so much? Also, should I be running 89? Thought level 2 required it but everything I read looks like 87 is OK..am I wasting money with 89?? Or should I leave 89 and advance timing by 1*?

Thanks for any and all advice!!

It sounds like there are a few factors here. The hunting for gears is completely normal and expected with 3.55's and 35" tires, that's just going to happen. Without regearing there is almost no way to avoid this...but there are ways to make it less prominent. Check the shift points in the Edge. If it's revving high, then the shift parameters are likely set to allow it. Don't worry about revving the Mod Motors (4.6l and 5.4l) as they make good power above 3k RPM.
Now onto your 89 tune...you should be matching the octane you put into the truck to coordinate with the octane of the tune you've uploaded. My suggestion is to either pony up for 89 octane at every fill-up, or reduce your tune to accept 87 octane fuel. Why? Well it's a timing thing as you know, and the engine's computer can accommodate for slight variances in octane levels, but consistently running a lower octane can cause long term engine issues. I'm surprised that you aren't experiencing a slight "ping" (pre-detonation) with running 87 octane on a tune that requires 89 octane.

I am currently running 89.. the tune calls for 87, which I was mistakenly thought it required 89, which is why I have been running it.

I've been trying to do some homework, a little easier than I thought.

I just changed the timing to +1 (.5 for each octane, im 2 octane up) to see if that does anything noticeable, as i have a full tank right now of 89. I may switch back to 0 if I refill with 87 (due to not noticing anything worth it with the 89)

I know that won't change my shifting issue.. but my thought is decreasing the shift point for 3-4 to see if that helps? It seems like it just really hangs right on the edge of wanting to shift there or not... if I let off the gas sometimes it will shift, and then its fine. If I can just get it to shift there instead of hanging I think that will make a big improvement for me so I'm not running 3k to go 65 on the freeway until the road flattens out or i go down hill lol.. does that sound right? or should I go more than -1?

also with that said, I would want it to shift less going 4th to 3rd... so would I want to - or + 4-3 to get it to not downshift as easily?
