1996 351W TIMING CHAIN REPLACEMENT

Installed a new timing chain set on my 96 351w. Question, should I be able to rotate the crank via the harmonic balancer completely? I am rotating the crank to install the flexplate but I am limited to only about 45 degrees of rotation. I can hear the compression of the pistons. Is the normal or do I have an issue??
Thanks.

Aside from fighting compression, with enough applied force, you should be able to turn the crank as many revolutions as you are inclined to attempt. I mean, the starter motor has the power to do the same thing until the engine turns over. It's just not an easy thing to do when you are fighting compression and that is actually a good sign. If you had an easy time of it, your compression would come into question.

Installed motor and attempting to hand crank motor for tdc and nothing. Motor is not turning at all. What did I do wrong?
Thanks.

this is after you put in a motor or t-chain? if its after a motor swap i would look for it to be binding against the trans. if its after a chain youre probably touching a valve, re check your timing marks

How do I re check timing marks?

I removed timing chain and tried rotating motor from cranks and still nothing?

What issues could possibly be wrong with trans, how do I check?

Thanks.

8 cyl the dot on the crank gear is at 12:00 and the dot in the cam gear is at 6:00 so they point at each other. if the torque converter is not fully seated into the front pump in the trans it will bind not allowing you to turn the crank. theres no specific measurement for torque converter depth but i know i cant slip my hand behind it when its in all the way. if you pull out the converter, change the ft seal. if you have the motor out than ive grossly misunderstood your question. are you sure the flexplate isnt hitting anything?
