the only things that I can tell that I need to make this work
1: rubber grommet for the oil dump into the valvecover
2: t-fitting for the oil pressure sender on the back of the engine for the sender and oil feed for the turbo
3: modify my club car wheel spacer and weld on my elbow
4: drill a nice neat hole in the hood for the elbow to escape
5: remove/patch the exhaust that currently runs beneath the truck
anyone local want an exhaust? not rusted out.
You will not want a hood stack for a 2000 mile journey. It'll be way too loud, cover your windshield, hood and truck in soot, and most of all it's completely illegal and you will be pulled over and ticketed for it - especially towing a trailer.
so........ now what? I can mount the turbo the other way and dump straight down., just need some new piping for the intake. As for my checklist
1: rubber grommet for the oil dump into the valvecover
got it, at autozone
2: t-fitting for the oil pressure sender on the back of the engine for the sender and oil feed for the turbo
got it, at ACE
3: modify my club car wheel spacer and weld on my elbow
sort of got this one, I need to go to a welding shop tomorrow and use a torch
4: drill a nice neat hole in the hood for the elbow to escape
so as per lead, I shouldn't do this, still debating on whether or not too though.
5: remove/patch the exhaust that currently runs beneath the truck
anyone local want an exhaust? not rusted out.
to be done at the welding shop tomorrow, did a lot of work today, I will post pics again, as promised.
Enjoy your noise violations, impaired visibility, and faulty exhaust/emissions tickets - which you will get. Especially towing a trailer. If the cop that pulls you over is having a bad day, he probably has the legal authority to have your truck impounded as well.
A hood stack on a real working truck is just the dumbest thing possible.
enjoy the pics
I got everything ready for install today, flange is all set, just need to take it to the muffler shop to get er' done.
I am going with a DP setup to go behind the engine "shorter that way" and just junction with the stock exhaust for now with a bolt type connection, need to modify the cross over, or make a new one, and that's it. easy day. total installation will take approx 2 hours, "if nothing breaks"
muffler shop was too busy and can't get anything done until mon at the earliest. I will be there early mon and be ready to go. I'm cutting the pipes and prepping today. I will run down there with open manifolds and the turbo pre installed. something did come of my adventure yesterday, I got all new rubbers for the trip, 1078$ and some change for all five. pictures to come.

ok, picture time, they pretty much say it all. I got everything setup for tomorrow, and my crossover tube is going to be fabbed, and wrapped. My new DP is going to be fabbed and wrapped. Finally the DP will be connected to the stock exhaust. I have some pics of the various things I did to the manifold to prep it for the turbo. I will eventually get around to doing the other side this way also. I installed heat shielding on various wires and vacuum tubes that I thought could get warm, being near the turbo. I heat shielded my valve cover. I heat shielded the oil feed line "necessary? probably not" I drilled and tapped the mani. to accept a thermocouple for the EGT gauge. I painted with 2000 deg ceramic paint, and cut away some casting leftovers so it would be easier to wrap, and wrapped that puppy up.

ok, so speed bump time. I noticed that the valve cover hole no longer lines up with the center section oil dump. I used a length of 5/8 hose to fix that and lubed it up, and shoved into the grommet, done. My t-section that I made from ACE parts/fittings works great. I have to tell you, it was a real bear getting it screwed in to the oil pressure sender at the back of the block though. I installed everything, torqued everything down, and the last step is to replace the A/C compressor, only one problem, the turbo is in the way now. I have no work around for this, besides re making the manifold, and loads of other time consuming work. I think, I'll just run without it "already removed the belt, and metal ziptied it in place so it won't bump onto anything important" until I get to VA and get a more permanent solution. Tomorrow is my all day appt. with the muffler shop, I'm driving open manifold all the way there 30 miles or so. Wish me luck.
so turbo installed, I got some hose from carquest, the special tough silicon kind that doesn't take bends well. I used a 45 deg. 2" pipe from autozone and made the piping. The turbo works good, as far as I can tell. Pulls good after 1750 or so. I need to install my pyrometer, which is why I haven't opened her up just yet. Boost gauge isn't hooked up yet, but i'm fixing that too. In another post, I seem to have discovered the function, and found out that mine is bad, of the CDR I have noticed, in the past, that I have white smoke pouring into the intake from the big UFO thingy on the back of the inlet. time to change it, I have whit/blue smoke under load and the smell of burning oil. the turbo spools real good, keeps turning a good 30 sec. to one minute after the engine is shutoff.
