my f100 i got from utah(provo area) drives like pooh ever since i got it back down here. everyone tells me it's because of the atmosphere difference. What needs to be done?
the carb says 9834-3, i htink it's a 600 cfm. the truck drove fine all the back to la. but ever since it runs bad. when i drove up there in a diff vehicle it drove bad too. i know nothing about engines. so any help is appreciated
If you know nothing about what your doing Id take it to someone who does...If you want to drive it, But if your looking to learn then youve come to the right place.
Sounds like the carb is tuned to high elevation and your gonna need to re-jet it to sea level, Being your new I'd toss the Holley and get a Edelbrock a hell of alot easier to tune.
Is it puking black smoke? Or smell like raw fuel when its running?
Provo area is around 4600 ft, LA is sea level. You'll probably need to lean out the carb jetting. It's relatively simple but if you're not familiar with engines I would take it to someone to do the carb tuning. While it's simple, it's not the kind of thing to get your feet wet with.
Genuine Ford Motorcraft carbs: 0-5,000 ft. used the same carb jets / 5,000-10,000 ft. used another / 10,000-15,000 ft. is different again.
Truck may have come from Provo UT, but where was it sold new? Could have been sold anywhere, like Park City UT or Leadville CO, the highest incorporated city in the US @ 10,000 ft.
