Street / strip tire & gear combos ?

Anyone who takes it to the dragstrip on Friday or Saturday night and drives it regularly, what tire diameter and gear ratio do you have and do you think it's ideal or would you like to change it? I just put in a warmed up 351W with my C6, hasn't been out of the garage yet but the 2.75 open rear end has to go. Currently I have 31x10.5 15s on the rear, and have a couple used sets of slicks I can mount up, 31x10.5w or 28x9. Thanks for any opinions.

28-inch tall, 10.5-inch wide tires with a 3.50 rear gear and a C6 is a good street/strip compromise. These rigs are heavy and the weight distribution is biased on the nose so don't expect any miracles.

I'm hoping it will run right about an 8 flat 1/8 mi. That is estimating if my Windsor makes nearly 400 hp, just a guess.

i know that when i ran Red Dawg (78 f150) i mated the 420 hp 460 with a c6 3.73 gears and 315-75-16's on the rear with a minispool and she ran 14's at the 1/4 mile but always was something fishy about it.....

Just bringing this up for more conversation.

I have a '79 shortbox with a 650 hp (+/-) 521 stroker with a c6 behind it. It will have a 28" - 31" tire and will run street 90% of the time. I don't want to drive it across the country but it would be nice to be able to take it on a 3 hr tour.

Looking for some input on gearing but also on converter stall.

How would something like a 3.50 gear work? Would I still have a good jump from a dead stop?

With that engine it should have plenty of pop with 2.73 rear gears.

For those folks with a ford 9inch rear, why not just make up a 3.00-1 rear and a 4.10 rear?
Just swap the third members before going to the track.
