P1406 - Diff Pres Feedback Sens Downstream Hose Off/Plugged
Any help would be nice.
Well I don't know for sure, usually I don't post unless I'm pretty confident in the answer. So here's an "educated" guess.
The rear differential has a vent hose on it that maintains atmospheric pressure in the diff. If this hose is plugged, it will cause pressure to build up in the diff that will eventually lead to seal failure. A plugged diff vent is the most common cause of seal failures.
I wasn't aware that this was computer monitored, put perhaps it is these days.
It should be fairly simple to track the small vent hose coming from the diff and check to see that it isn't plugged.
the differential pressure sensor is part of the smog equipment and it is located under the hood. I wish someone was a Ford Mechanic here and could tell me how to fix it.
The DPFE sensor monitors the exhaust gas flow from the EGR valve back to the intake. This information is then fed back to the PCM. There are two hoses (an upstream and downstream) which plug into the sensor. The code that you are seeing is indicating that one of these hoses has come loose. The sensor is located near the EGR valve and the hoses are going to tubes which feed into the exhaust manifold. Take a look at the sensor and see if one of the hoses is off. If it is, fix it. If it is not, there could be something wrong with the sensor, replace the sensor. These are known go bad on a multitude of Ford vehicle lines. let me know if you need any help.
BTW, the reply about this having something to do with the axle differential was hillarious!!!. Sorry, but it was.
