Mysterious Dash Part

I have an 07 150 supercrew lariat. I just recently purchased it and was detailing the heck out of it but came across this little black thing that looks like it has slots for coins. Its located on the driver side under the air vent between the steering wheel and radio.

I removed it to wash it (was full of dust and dirt) to find out that it has wires connected to it and now i am very curious as to what the heck this thing is. I looked all over the manual and couldn't find anything and its bothering me!!! haha

so what is this thing

I believe what you are talking about is the coin holder. It has a wire that is used for an option that uses that same hole stuck into the back of it to keep it from rattling around in the dash.

It is a coin holder and that wiring is for the electronic 4x4 switch. If you dont have 4wd or have the manual transfer case it is just plugged into the back of the coin holder to keep it out of the way.
