Hello All, looking to buy my first F250 4x4 v10 (1999), I test drove truck today, and I was very pleased how it ran, my only question is, how to test if 4x4 is working( how to engage it and test it), this will be my first 4x4, and not realy sure how to. Thanks in advance
The user manuel for your truck has all the info on pages 125 to 130.
Basicly you can go 4H up to 55 mph by the dash switch but I would not recommend doing it at those speeds.
For 4L you need to be stopped, shifter in Neutral, foot on brake then switch to 4L otherwise 4L won't do anything until you do.
Do not run in either 4wd on dry pavement.
After any engagement it takes about a 45 second guard period before mechanical engagement occurrs.
Some other comments are 4wd helps traction by 100 % but does nothing for improved braking so be awhere of that so you don't over run a bad situation and make it worse.
Good luck.
Thanks Bluegrass 7, I just bought the truck today and it didnt come with the owners manual. your info will come in real handy tomorrow when i take it out to the desert!
