Pocket door problem
Everything was fine with my 2000 F-150 until a few weeks ago when I went to open the driver's side pocket door and it would not open. Felt like the latch was releasing but would not open. I went around to the passenger's side pocket door to open it: SAME PROBLEM! This makes no sense; these two doors had worked fine, they operate independently, and I have confirmed with Ford dealers that there is no safety lock feature that may have been activated. Of course, the only remaining options appear to me either my tearing the doors apart, or worse yet paying someone else for the privilege.
I hope instead that one of you knows exactly what is wrong and how I can fix it! Thanks much. DK
I recently bought a 1998 Ext. cab. Doors worked just fine, on Sunday.
Went out the very next day, tried to open the 3rd door, and nothing!!! The latch handle operated, and the 3rd door did not open.
Took it to the FORD dealer that I use, and they told e there is a cable mechanism that was probably broke. To bring it down the next day, and leave it, and they would check it out.
Sure enough, there were 2 fastening points where the cable attached into a clip. The plastic had aged, been used alot, and they broke. (Was told that over time, the cable also stretches).
The part was part #:6L3Z*18264A26*A Latch $83.58
Labor: $72.00
The left the part in the bed of the truck, to show me.
(I've since trashed the part).
This may or may not be your problem. But was mine.
I'm not a mechanic.
