I need a little advice on a transmission I just installed in my truck. When it was pulled as an engine/trany combo a lot of fluid spilled out of the tail and between pulling it, getting it to my house, and installing it in my 54 f100 I assume the rest of the fluid eventually spilled out the tail shaft.
Now I want to run the engine but the question I have do I just need to fill the transmission normally or will I need to also fill the torque converter separately? Will filling the transmission also fill the converter? I won't be driving the truck (still under construction) for a while. Also can I just cap the transmission lines since they aren't connected to a cooler.
Also I don't have a drive shaft installed so will the fluid leak out the tail?
Thanks for any advice

If you leave the transmission in park or neutral, you should not have to install any fluid for engine tests. If you do put any fluid into it, you will have to hook up all the lines, as the pump will run with the engine, and pump fluid through everything, including the cooling lines. And yes, if you don't seal up the tail shaft, fluid will leak out there.
That's good advice if you don't mind destroying the transmission. Running a transmission without fluid is just as bad as running the engine without oil. It doesn't matter if the trans is in park or neutral, no fluid means you'll need a new transmission. The pump is spinning anytime the engine is running. It has no sense of humor about running without fluid.
You will need the lines connected. For a temporary fix you could just run a line from one to the other. The trans won't need cooling running like that. You will need a plug in the output shaft. Either the driveshaft yoke or a plastic plug.
Ok got it. I've always been a standard guy until my current truck which is new so never have to mess with the auto tranny. Many Thanks for the advice!!!
