2008 Escape wiper issue

This morning my wipers cut out, except on high speed; low and all intermitent settings did nothing. Also, when I turned the wipers off, they stopped in place with out resetting to the park position. This afternoon, hey were working normally again. I'd like to deal with it before they cut out for good. Googling that issue I've seen intermittent (pulse?) modules mentioned. I'd rather not start randomly replacing parts, but does that sound like a possible cause to anyone on here?
