big bucks

Took my F-250 diesel in for two fuel filters. Bill was $239.00 with the tax. Yikes!!

And the spring on my consul is broken or something so the lid doesn't stay up very well. Any little incline and it slams down now. So I asked about replacing that little piece. Has to be a special order and the price is just over $45 for the little hinge. I asked how much the labour would be and the service guy said about a hundred bucks.. or an hour or so to get it on. So $150 for the little hinge with the spring inside that keeps the lid up. Never expected that price which is pretty ridiculous to me.

Dealerships are getting like the hospitals (where they charge $25 for an aspirin you can buy at Walmart for pennies). Driving a Ford f-250/350 is like driving a foreign exotic car in that the parts seem to be over priced.

My warranty is up, over 100 000 kms (60 000 miles) so only have the engine and drive train warranty now until 160 000 kms. (100 000 miles) I'll probably start sweating more as the engine warranty gets closer and closer to the end.

BTW, does anyone use that cetane booster in the diesel? I see it but have had my truck 24 months now and never put it in. No problems or issues as I hear winter diesel has cetane boosters in it. It is advertised in the Shell premium diesel which I usually use.

yea, that hurts. I try to do the maintenance things myself. It is not hard changing those fuel filters. Same with oil changes.

that hinge you could probably order, and replace it yourself, if you are into that sort of thing.

I use Stanadyne in my fuel year around.

You need to do your own. The fuel filters are around $50 here in the states.
It takes 10 minutes.

Or at least find a dealer that runs some specials. I just got a monthly flyer from my local Ford dealer advertising the 6.7L Powerstroke Diesel Fuel Filter maintenance ( which replaces both filters) for $99.95.

I have been kinda putting the additives in my fuel. I don't know how big a deal it is, But it's not too expensive, so I try to remember.

If you are in a colder climate, I'd be more religeous about adding at least the anti-gel. I hate when diesel engine won't start in the winter.

Ya, an oil change and a fuel filter change takes an hour if you take your time. I used to pay to have all that done, then I got in a money pinch, did myself for a while, now I like to do it. Check into it, saves a ton of money.

As someone who deals with high e end German cars, these are for more reasonable prices. . If your not up to doing it yourself I'm sure you can find a shop for less but have referrals first. And keep your finger s crossed. ..
