I'm finally gettin around to replacing my glow plugs. It's planned to happen this saturday. I know theres a few of them that are bad, and the truck has 203k so im going to replace them all. This is my first time doin this so I was wondering if you guys had any good advice to make it a little easier, or any thoughts on other things i should check while im under the VC. I've thought about doing the 50 cent mod but i couldn't find a write up on it in my searches. Can anyone help me out there? Thanks in advance.
i think you'll want a piece of 3/8in tbing to remove/install the G.P.'s...guess the socket gets hung up when removing them and makes it easier to installing them. Also, might wanna have a turkey baster, vacuum pump, wet/dry pump..etc, to vacuum out, if any, oil that will accumulate into the cylinders.
I did mine yesterday when i did the new sticks. Didn't use any tubing. I used a 1/4" drive 10mm deep socket and just pushed it down far enough to engage the hex while removing. Too far and the socket wouldn't get up past the rocker/pushrod once it was loose... Once all loosened I pulled them out with my fingers..
Just bump the engine over by jumping the solenoid on the firewall to get that little bit of oil to spit out the cylinder...
If you have to pull the CCV off the driver's VC get some new o-rings for it. Mine were swelled up and wouldn't squeeze back into the recess.
