Motorcraft / Fram oil filters the same?

Hey Fella's,

This may be an old wound. But I was reading on another site that the Fram filters are indeed made by Racor. So last night when I went to wally world to pick up some things I cruised over there and checked them out. I'll be dang if I can tell the difference between them. They have the same print / font / and color of the text. They are the same height, the end plates are the same thickness, and the filter media looks exactly the same. Nowhere on the Fram box, or the Motorcraft box for that matter do they say Racor. EVERYTHING about these two filters look identical to my eye. The Fram is a little over a buck cheaper. I meant to compare the fuel filters too but I forgot.

The old Fram is a Racor filter. Newer Fram's are their own design.

You must have been fortunate enough to have found some "old stock" as the newest Fram filters for the 6.0 are NOT made by Racor, so BEWARE and make sure to double check every time you buy.

As that original thread was posted I took that pic of the new and old filters at my local Walmart.

I noticed the other day all they had were the old style and none of the new style.

Interesting.

The old fram filter is in a pretty solid orange box and the filter has the patent number printed on the bottom. The new fram filter is in a multi-coloured box with various pictures on it, the filter does not have the patent numbers and there is a little retro-fit plastic piece that you are supposed to put somewhere.

Ahh, I see. Yeah they had four of these Fram filters on the shelf. NOS probably. But for a buck more I'll buy the motorcraft instead of that new bull crap thing Fram has out.
