hey guys its the first blizzard of the year and i get the X out to go to town and it wont lock into 4 high at all but will lock into 4 low after about 2 minutes of jockeying the truck around.....i have warn premium hubs on her so that takes the crappy oem hubs out of the equation....you think it might be a weak xfer case 4x4 motor?
alright i just came back in from testing it some more and here is where we stand....no 4x4 at all....with the hubs locked both front axles will turn like they should (meaning the spindles and u joint are turning) but when i do the hard over on the steering test it doesnt do the 4x4 hop to show everything is locked in.....when i switch to 4 high the front axle does turn so the 4x4 motor is good.....is this a front differential thing or do you think i got a bad hub?
ok so i was thinking this was a locking hub issue so i took the x out to the barn and yanked the warn's out....turns out one of them was missing a snap ring on the back side of the unit allowing the spindle gear to be pushed back too far to engage with the hub gear.....robbed one of my other hubs for the snap ring and it works great.....

Missing? As in it came off, or it was never there?

well i just put them in about a month ago and this is the first time i have removed them since....when i pulled the main guts of the hub out the inner stuff stayed in the bearing unit....im gonna guess it was never there....

There was another thread where someone was having problems with that inner snap ring. I can't remember the specifics, but I remember the innards of his warn hubs were falling out too.
