4x4 PROBLEMS RESOLVED?
Ok, ever since I bought my truck i have constantly had 4x4 problems...they never got resolved correctly until I finally just took it to Ford. For now, I will skip over the history of what happened, I want to know if this is normal.
With my 4x4 on, and I am on pavement, with a slight turn my truck is "tripping" and the front wheels are doin a lotta screechin. I think this is normal....but my 4x4 has never been like this. Off road it seems fine.
Ok now to my history:
When I bought my truck the 4x4 didn't work (but i didnt know that i could manually lock the hubs. Apparantly the dealer (non ford) replaced the switch in the dash.
On a trip i went to use 4x4 and it didnt work, but I locked my hubs and it seemed to work fine.
On the way home from that trip (4 hour drive) when hitting small bumps (4x4 off and hubs to auto) my right hub would kinda lock and grind. I first locked the hubs to see if that would help, but it would still do it, so i had to turn 4x4 on and then all was smooth the rest of the way.
Once i was home I commuted to work with everything off, and had the occasional grind.
Finally when going to use 4x4 one day, with manually locking the hubs, it didnt wrok, figured the hubs were shot. Also, to note that I finally lost my vaccuum to my a/c vents (default to defrost)
AFter a while I took my truck to Ford and had a great experience.
They found a bad axle on the right side, a bad hub on the right, bad bearing, and vacccuum switch. Thank goodness my extended warranty covered it all.
The reason for posting this thread is I am still paranoid that my left hub might be bad also....
