jefferyt, Only the front passenger sides works proerly both ways. Back doors do not work at all. They are next on the agenda. Just wondering why the door won't lock. I've looked twice now, and all the rods "appear" to be hooked up correctly. It's like ti isn't getting enough power to lock the. Yes, it is moving a bit, trying to lock, just not getting pulled down all the way. It will lock by hand, so I'm guessing the rods are all hooked up properly.
That is the symptoms of the thermistor being bad (which is what we are trying to fix). Did you use foil to wrap the thermistor, or a new piece of copper? If you used foil, is it possible that it tore while you were reinstalling the thermistor? It sounds like it isn't really fixed.
Jeff,
That's kinda what I was thinking. It's just too darn cold up here right now to be working on these things outside, so I'll just have to put it off until Spring, or a 40* day. We'll see what I can find then. Thanks for the input.
Crop,
The mechanism appears to working smoothly, but I have nothing to really compare it to. And I'm not sure what you mean by the "lock tab inside".
And as a side note/thought to the aluminum foil...Is there any reason I couldn't cut up an aluminum can to the proper size and thickness, and insert that in place of the thermister?
Not sure about aluminum, but some guys use copper. Just cut a little rectangle from a penny or a piece of copper pipe.
What a thermistor is, is a piece of synthetic material that increases its resistance when it heats up (it does this to protect the motor from overheating). Anything that completes the circuit will work. The foil wrapped around the thermistor gives the electricity a path with less resistance. If the foil tears when reinstalling, it may not complete the circuit as desired. I've done over a dozen with foil and had no issues, but I could see how one could tear.
I don't see why aluminum wouldn't work, as long as its thick enough.
I'm looking at some actuators on ebay and I am wondering if there is a difference in design from the front actuators and the rear ones? I haven't actually been into my rear doors yet so I haven't seen them. The auction is for four of them but the seller says that they won't fit the four door model. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me to be honest so I thought I would ask you guys. I know there are more than a few of you that have had hands on the lock actuators. The link to the ebay item is below so you can take a peek if you like. Thanks a bunch.
