All excursions came with the hitch as part of the low vehicle safety system. The actual tow package option added Tow mirrors and the rear sway bar. Might have added the 4.30 gears too. The mirrors and gears where available separately I believe.

Must have been. I have mirrors and gears but no bar.
just get the hellwig bar. The rear sway bar makes a lot of difference.
Yes, I know but it is very low on the priority list and seems to be getting lower. We hardly even drive the Excursion any more and I'm not towing with it except once in a blue moon.
Have to do ball joints and front sway bar links first. Plus have tons of projects to do in our new money pit, err, I mean house.
I'm new to the X so I'm trying to understand exactly what I have. It has tow mirrows, rear sway bar, 3.73LS gears, bottom leaf on spring is 1/2 leaf forward that is a very thick leaf ???, mine also has a 12000 lb hitch where I have seen many with a 10000 lb hitch. That's all I can see that might have been in the package, is there anything else???
i dont really know that there was a tow "package" for the Ex. every Ex had a hitch, 7 way. the gears and mirrors were options. all of my Ex's have had 3:73s but one came with mirrors.
The Ford source books list all Excursions as coming with the Trailer Tow package as standard. That included only the receiver and wiring harness/trailer plug.
Tow mirrors are listed only as an available option and not as part of a package for towing. They may be listed in other packages, though.
Rear OEM Sway bars are listed only as standard in the Limited and Eddie Bauer packages. I find nothing in my source books or ordering guides that list the rear swaybar as an available option anywhere else.

How many leaves are on your front springs?
Any OEM front springs have only two leaves. If there is another one, then it is most likely a Add-A-leaf. If it has a total of 4 or more, then it is probably a lifting spring pack. That is assuming that the springs on there now are from Ford. Aftermarket lifed springs can be found with multipe leaves.
Well, I have to correct myself about the towing stuff. Apparently there was a package called the 4X4 Towing Group. Optional only on the Eddie Bauer and Limited. If you ordered a XLT, you were out of luck.
It included a rear stab bar, manul towing mirrors, and (now this is funny) Clearance lights.
From what I have seen, no Excursions ever came from the factory with clearance lights. IThey're not listed at all on the ordering sheets. Only mentioned in the source books.
