All Excursions got the rear hitch as part of the blocker bar system, it also came standard with the 4 pin and 7 pin connector on all Excursions.
There is a separate factory tow package and it adds the tow mirrors and rear sway bar. The rear sway bar only came with the tow package so if you have that then you have the factory tow package. My Monroney sticker showed 4x4 tow group package as a separate option.
The tow mirrors could be ordered as a stand a lone option. There were no additional upgrades to engine or trans cooling either so it is not like what many think of when you think tow package which usually adds some other items.
Well, I have to correct myself about the towing stuff. Apparently there was a package called the 4X4 Towing Group. Optional only on the Eddie Bauer and Limited. If you ordered a XLT, you were out of luck.
It included a rear stab bar, manul towing mirrors, and (now this is funny) Clearance lights.
From what I have seen, no Excursions ever came from the factory with clearance lights. IThey're not listed at all on the ordering sheets. Only mentioned in the source books.
The clearance lights they speak of are on the trailer tow mirrors.
The Ford source books list all Excursions as coming with the Trailer Tow package as standard. That included only the receiver and wiring harness/trailer plug.
Tow mirrors are listed only as an available option and not as part of a package for towing. They may be listed in other packages, though.
Rear OEM Sway bars are listed only as standard in the Limited and Eddie Bauer packages. I find nothing in my source books or ordering guides that list the rear swaybar as an available option anywhere else.
I have an 04 Eddie Bauer Power Stroke, the sticker save from the original owner shows:

Reverse Sensing Sys
convenience group (whatever that is, I don't know)
6-way power pass seat
Optional Equipmenr:
-3.73 Ratio limited slip axle $250
-Bright tubular running boards $445
Which explain why I don't have the running board lights wirings
-Eddie Bauer premier group $1.110

* Home link
* Heated front seats
-Rear seat entertainment - DVD $1,500
Total $52,250

TOTAL MSRP $53,045
Don't know how much the original owner paid out the door, does Ford has any deal back in 2004.
With what I see in the sticker, option 3.73 rear for $250. What is the standard gear? was it 3.73 without limited slip? No sway bar also.
NEAT! Here's one I didn't know. Vinyl flooring was a option on the XLT line. Now that would be a rare one.
My XLT F350 has the "carpet delete" package, and I love it! I wish that my Ex had it with the environment we live in here in Alaska, it would be so much nicer!
With what I see in the sticker, option 3.73 rear for $250. What is the standard gear? was it 3.73 without limited slip?
3.73 was the only gear for the diesels and it was the standard gear for the V-10, the 6.8's could option up to the "tow" gear of 4.30. The 5.4's could also have a 4.10 gear. The $250 charge was for the Limited Slip.
The clearance lights they speak of are on the trailer tow mirrors.
FYI
No, those are turn signals. If you search back (long way back) we discussed the concept of clearance lights above the windshield. The lights were part of what Ford envisioned for the Ex as options, but it never materialized. Three prominent locations of info that allude to this are the Ford source books, the ordering pages, and the body builders manual.
Listed as an option in the ordering sheets but never available.
Shown in dimensional drawings in the body builders manual.
Shown as an option in the tow group but never produced on the line with the package.
I just dug up all those old threads for review. Memories....
Glad you posted that pic. Mine is missing the bumpers on the rear springs. Of the six bumpers I know of 5 are missing. Looks like I'll have to get the penetrating oil out for those rusted nuts.
Mine has it, and it has the tow mirrors, rear sway bar, and 3.73LS gears. When you think of it, for $275, it isn't going to include much. I'm surprised that even covered the mirrors and sway bar, since the mirrors alone were much more than that from the dealer for service parts. Yes, service parts cost more, but for what's included in this package...
My old black Ex didn't have the tow package. It had the hitch and wiring, but no sway bar, no tow mirrors, and 3.73 open gears. Still pulled my trailer with it, but I never found out if it was the tires that made it not as enjoyable or the lack of rear sway bar.
