ive had a p0401 Ithink, insufficientegr flow code for a while and discovered it was because my first cat was clogged up, sluggish, ****ty rotten egg smell, I decided to cut off my exhaust before that cat and gutted it. im on obd2, its a 96 4.9 i6, Ireset the ecu to see if the code came back but habent driven enough to know, egr pipe is just after that cat along withan 02 sensor. will thisaffect my fuel mixture oranything and or should I get likesome sort of o2 eliminator? nobody
thats what all of these local auto parts stores told me, code p0401 because my first cat was clogged. the last guy took some sort of laser thermometer to read that my first cat was 350 degrees when running and the second one was 120ish. he suggested get a new cat, or to get rid of it. I tend not to think before cuttin things out, haha
Cats get hot! That's why they put shields around them and warn you about parking/idling especially in a grassy area.
Better to come here and ask the enthusiasts than believe what they call a Parts Tech at most chain parts stores. After being a Parts Tech, ASE cert'd if that means anything, it makes me cringe to walk in an Advance or Auto Zone................Most of them do good to enter your info into their computer much less know anything about DTC's!
