Changing out my rear rotors, driver side was ok, but passenger side had a lot of fluid under the rotor. My question is, is it brakes, or rear axle? Hard to tell color because it was very dirty. Here are a few pics.
I guess I know the answer, because brakes would be on top of the rotor and all over the place, and would be low on brake fluid... Guess I get to change out a seal today...
Yeah, I was really expecting that strong gear oil smell to it, but I can't smell anything at the moment... On another note, they had major issues with breaks on this side.
The brakes are finished. It had new pads all the way around, and now it's got new rotors all the way around. All the slide pins are working fine to my surprise. Just the one caliper with a bit if damage, but that shouldn't effect anything too much.
Not bad at all with the proper hub nut socket. I changed my right rear seal over 100k miles ago and have yet to change the other side. Extra seal is still in my parts cabinet in the garage. I used the OEM Ford/Motorcraft seal.
Ah... the infamous inside wear pattern. The slide pins are stuck, so it makes the brakes wear more on the inside face, causing shudder, weak braking, and more heat. I have experience with this. I replaced everything and I now grease the slide pins annually.
I had the same issue on the front with Gus. Had to replace the whole bracket cause I couldn't get the pins out. These are all free at the moment. I'm thinking they just replaced all the brakes before the trade in. Overlooked replacing the rotor obviously.
Ok, as long as I can get the seal and oring at oreilly today, and the special socket, i'll be getting right on it. Wish me luck, i'll post up pics this afternoon hopefully...

If you can't get the axle o-ring, it's not a deal breaker. I reused mine and have had the axles out another time when I installed my Truetrac differential. No leaks! You can always add a light film of RTV to the axle flange if you are concerned with a possible leak.
check the surface wear the seal rides, if you have a groove deep enough to feel with your fingernail then you might consider a repair sleeve [ speedy sleeve ].
