I have seen a few rear ends that had a factory installed wear sleeve and after market seals would not fit . Cross reference your factory seal # to be sure . I have also seen axle repairs done that take a special seal after .
Can anyone confirm national seal no. 370247A? That's what I have.
Yes, that is the correct seal which has the integral wear sleeve, also.

Yes, it is a wear sleeve that has to be removed before the new seal can go on correctly.
You got it figured out. Hope you didn't damage the new seal when you torqued it down against the wear sleeve.
Got my new/spare seal on the shelf as well, Roland. Mt p/s blew out during summer. Jeff, i learmed after the fact, but if/when i have to do the d/s seal, i'm gonna fill the cavity with diff fluid then bolt up the axle OR park truck with p/s tires in the gutter overnight, for bearing cavity to fill with oil.
I wasnt too stoked in packing the bearings with grease just for it to contaminate the diff fluid?
