Agree with khadma . Sounds like belt chirp . They could have contaminated it with some fluid . One last thing to look at , 4.0 Fords have a problem with the balancers coming unglued .They can cause some strange complaints .
I don't think it is a belt... it is a little more metallic on the chirping... and most of teh time I can get it to happen by gently accellerating. Sometimes it happens when just coasting. I did not have this before the replaced the torque converter... they said they removed the transmission to do that. Coudl they have screwed something up with that?

YES ! They could have . If it started right after a tc replacement , take it back where the work was done . Have them find the problem ( under warranty , no charge ) If they try to screw you around , get a second opinion . Even if they did not cause an issue , they should at least be able to tell you what it is . So don't go in all mad ,ask them to look at it after explaining it happend after their work .
Thanks. I will do that. I am actually very disastisfied with this recent service visit. When the did the initial diagnostic, they did not have the hoses I needed so they made me pay the diag fee and said it would be credited back when I pick up the truck. I was OK with that. But they did not credit it when I paid the full amount, and I have gotten the run around ever since. Two weeks, and I still don't have my credit. Now this.
We'll see if they can take care of both this week. I really wish I had another Ford dealer near.
I hear that all to often . I work for a small shop in business for 28 years . I've been there 11 . We have a local DEALER ! that brings us work ! Big 3 dealer ! not a used car lot ! We do work for lots of companies some come from miles away . But a new car lot ! makes you wonder . I hear horror stories all the time . Good luck . Don't let them screw you around .
Brought it back to the dealer... tech drove with me and heard the noise. They say they are going to put another torque converter on there... not sure why... also said they are replacing an "idler pulley" on the front of the engine? What are the odds that a brand new torque converter is bad?
Also, what is a reasonable parts/labor to replace the main drive belt? The dealer owes me some $ and is offering that as a substitute... said mine shows some wear (although four weeks ago they said it was fine). They charged me for diagnostics and said it would be credited when they got the parts in and did the work... over 5 weeks and multiple phone calls and two visits and i still don't have the credit. How much is a drive belt and install worth?
I'd appreciate any input on the belt cost... part and labor... hopefully picking up vehicle today or tomorrow... but just seems fishy to me... bad brand new torque converter? I am hoping the dealer is not milking my ESP or saying they put new part son that they did not...
The plot thickens! I called to check on my truck today, and was told my service rep was not there... I said, "is he out all day?" and then was told "he was let go!"
So, now I have another rep... actually one that I have always had good experience with in the past.
They are changing the torque converter and seal again (waiting for the tool for the seal)... still not sure why the one they put on 5 weeks ago was not working properly... if they actually put one on 5 weeks ago.
They are replacing the idler pulley under ESP and I am paying $25 for the belt... and I will hopefully now get my $117 credit I was owed by the fired rep.
You would think a manager would be apologizing to me for this MESS!!!
