2001 E 450 diesel vent control issue
Hello everyone. I'm looking for a little help with a problem with an E450 ambulance. Yesterday we began having a problem when turning the vent control switch out of defrost. As soon as the switch is moved from defrost to off or vent position, a loud buzz can be heard. This is quickly followed by a burning smell. When the switch is returned to defrost the problem stops. Parked it and took it out of service but no dealer in the area can look at it for a week. Just wondering if anybody had any ideas of what the problem may be. Thank you in advance.

That's an odd one. Vent control is vacuum actuated. Vacuum is supplied by a pump on the firewall. The pump should run until a preset vacuum is detected in the system, then shut down. The pump doesn't automatically turn on when the switch is moved.
Sounds like tagging it out of service was a smart move.
