Hey ALL,
Brand new to the f-150 side. Just traded in 2011 F-250 6.7 for a 2013 f-150 FX-4 5.0 Metallic Blue. Beautiful truck!. My question is, I was running the 4 wheel drive through its paces, and when switching to 4x4 low, on the LCD productivity screen, it turns the transfer case to a purplish color, from the green when in 4x4 hi. Also, the RPMS go pretty high before the truck moves. My question is simply is this normal? I don't remember it looking that way on my f-250, but i didn't really spend any time in 4 low. It being brand new, just wanted to make sure it was working correctly and this was normal. Thanks for the replies. Also there have been no error messages, but just wanted to confirm with others.
From what I remember seeing on my screen, i think its normal. RPMs will climb quickly in 4L. The truck already has a really low 1st gear and with it being in 4-low it gives a really low gear.
this is purely speculation, but i'd say that the reason it turns from green to purple is to give a visual indication of the drive train "slowing down". When you go from 4 HI to 4 LOW, you gearing is greatly reduced, which is why you have much higher rpm and less speed. More power, but at significantly lower speeds.
