Hmmm....
I think the question should be,
if you really NEED low range,
SHOULD you be going faster than third gear ?!?

I use low range more than I thought with my RV, mostly when pulling out and putting it back into storage or a site...
low range allows for 'finer' throttle control overcoming the inertia a lot easier...

and honestly, I can't imagine why I would want to go past second gear in low range, otherwise I use regular range...

I'm sure it is set up that way on purpose, if you need more then third gear in low range then you shouldn't be in low range. Lo range is for crawling.

low range is extra gearing. To provide more torque.

That means that you will have high RPM's and low speed.

Generally this type of gearing is not made for the hwy or for speed due to the sync between the gears.

I know what low range is. Your reply has nothing to do with my question.

I can't honestly tell you if a Ford is designed that way; I have had other 4WD's with autos, and they would not go into overdrive or lockup in low range. I am pretty sure that your Ford is designed that way.

The answer was useless in regards to his very specific question- is it normal for his truck to not go into overdrive or lockup in low range. He would get "a vacation from this site" for wanting a specified answer?

I took no real offense to it. I tried to explain and answer as best I could and I guess I didn't hit the mark.

That is fine with me.

The op's wording may have been different but that is ok.

If he didn't like his answer he didn't have to respond to it. There are much friendlier ways to let someone know you would like something answered differently. People who don't play nice generally don't last long here.

I was just stating fact not being mean.

Iunno, my buggy has 5.29s, 6.5 t/c gears, and 35s. I can get those Boggers spinning 40+ in some mudholes.
