Mine stays locked when not in use. Some people have wrapped a hose clamp around the right side pivot point on the tail gate. The right side is the side that is lifted out so the left side can be removed, IIRC. The hose clamp may not stop a theft but it'll slow em down or even discourage them.
Our local truck accessories store has a similar system they are selling. Basically it's just a glorified hose clamp.
They have locks that are installed under the tailgate release, not hard to install and is non electric, don't remember the brand due to the fact it has been a while since I had one .
Jimmi jammer. Door lock protection. My dad has them on his front doors after someone busted his lock and took $500 out if the center console.
Just installed my electric lock in the tailgate and love it. Got the Pace Edwards kit from Andy's Sport Auto for $66 after shipping. Did it a little different than the directions said and hooked it into the door locks wires under the the door sill.
Now every time I lock the truck the tailgate is locked to.
I had the electric lock on My F250 and loved it. I since have sold that truck and Got a 2011 F150 King Ranch. It has the camera in the tailgate and I have to lock it with the key. Started looking to buy the electric one again and can't find them under $90.00 Wish I would have remove it from the old one, as it's the same part # for the new one. I'll do a search for Andy's and see if I can find it. A link to this would be helpful for others.
Happy Hoildays, and be Safe!
What color were the wires you tapped into? I ended up getting a pop & lock and the instructions say a blue w/green and tan w/grey but Some people say that those are incorrect. I don't want to tap into the wrong ones
I tapped in at the driver door sill and routed it out the rubber grommet at the c pillar. Colors are blue/green stripe and gray/brown.
I have a picture but don't know how to load it.
H also when running the wire through the tailgate you will need a coat hanger to fish the wire through. there are two stiff backs with hole in them that the wire goes through. Also I put the wire in some loom so that it won't chafe and short out later.
