Engine swaps
has anyone here ever swaped a ford 429/460 in to their 51 or 52 truck(f1 to f6)? how was the fit? how much modification was done to the truck to make it fit? I am looking to swap the engine in mine, so i just wanted to know what others have done and how difficult it was. any other engine swap info on 302s and up to a 460 is helpfull, cause im not to sure what size i want to swap it to yet.(I have a 302 and trans, and i know where there is a 429). any comments, help and suggestions? Subscribing. I am going to put something back in my F4 other than the 226 CID six cyl. I am going with a more road friendly rear end ratio, perhaps an OD transmission. I, too am concern about fit of the 460.

I have not seen on in a 51-52 that I remember. I have a 429 in my 55 and it fits pretty nicely. I have a Mustang II front end under it and had to fabricate my motor mounts on the crossmember. Mine ended up about 3/4" from the firewall on the left bank, so in order to remove the transmission I would have to pull the engine out of its mounts and tip it to get to that bolt on the tranny. Even with the electric fan on the radiator there wasn't much room to move it forward. With the Sanderson headers I used there is plenty of room on either side, so plugs, etc are easy to get to.
