vacuum hose problem

vacuum hose problem
bought a 1997 ford f-150 4x4 with 4.6 v/8. the vacuum lines (pink and blue) for my 4x4 s. switches, broke at the connector. i connected them with a hose. there was also a third line running along with them. it looks to be some type of rubber hose running back toward the transfer case. is it a vent line. i,am lost. need help.

the front axle has two vacuum hoses running to it to engage the 4 x 4. The hoses run to the passenger wheel well, then up to the drivers side fire wall and connect to two solenoids at that point. There must be a third hose at this point that has vacuum all the time, and the solenoids direct vacuum to the two "in-out" hoses to the axle. Is this the third hose, at the firewall solenoid ?
