New transmission maybe?

Got 155,000 miles on the excursion. Just went in for the 30,000 mile transmission flush and fill I always do. Took a look at the pan and it had about a hand full of metal shavings and sludge in the bottom of the pan. I could scoop it out. Trans has always been serviced and never run hot. Still shifts like new and pulls my 6500lb trailer I tow 5 times a week for work. No slipping or anything. Should I be worried at all? Be prepared to buy a bts?

Got a picture? A bunch of stuff stuck on the magnet is normal and no need to worry. If you could fill a cup with it, then it's time to worry.

It looked like a donut sized amount of metal say the magnet is the hole of the donut and the rest of the donut is metal shavings. That's about the size.

The transmission shop I brought it to told me that its a lot of metal shavings and he suggested an overhaul. But I told him to go drive the truck. He came back and couldn't believe how well it shifted. Said its weird to see all that metal and not have a trans problem. Also said he thinks either the torque converter or the planetary gears are coming apart.

2 years and 50,000 miles ago when my shift solenoid pack went out ford told me that my trans was toasted and it had to be replaced. Now this guy is saying the same thing. I guess I'll drive it till it blows up. 155,000 miles on a stock ford trans. I think I got my use out of it.

When i got my truck and did my first flush and filter, mine looked worse than that pic. I now have 214k and my Trans shifts fine. It has been about 50k since I did the first flush. Every 2 motor oil changes I have been draining the Trans pan and refilling. Il be replacing the filter again soon so il be able to see if there is anymore metal on the magnet. You may want to plan for a BTS, but you may get lucky like me and get another 50k miles out of your current Trans.

If it last me another 50,000 miles ill be more than happy to drop the bts in. I was hoping it would last till 160-180k. Got a couple of big jobs comming up so I should have some spending money for the truck.

On another note the transmission shop I brought my truck to custom transmissions on the West Bank said he can rebuild it at almost half the cost of bts with the same parts but he only offers a 2 year 24,000 mile warranty with make me real Leary about trying it.

No, he can't build a trans with the same parts as BTS. Brian has his parts made to his specks. We heard this many times and we've seen many bad trans storys from local builders.

I had BTS build my trans with nothing wrong with my OEM trans. I don't worry about being on the side of the road with a heavy load.

Get you an inline Magnefine trans filter and you won't have that problem. I've had them on my truck since 2006 and no metal shavings in the pan for me.
