It started a week ago when trans acted like I kicked it into neutral, no codes that I could get with a programmer, I could get 10 feet if I disconnect/reconnected the batteries. (Weird)
So I dropped the pan, had a bunch of sludge and shiny bits, took V bodies off and flushed.
With new separator gaskets, reassembled, and everything worked, but a few miles later torque converter wasn't locking and OD felt like it was slipping and temp rising.
So at a little over 485,500 miles I need a replacement. just can't get stuff to last half million miles any more.
I sure wish I could afford a BTS or JW trans this time but kid is going to collage soon. Priorities.
Ha! Cool story. When Brian at BTS disassembled my 226k mi. trans a couple of months ago, he said it was bar-none one of the nicest ones he had torn down, probably THE nicest considering the miles on it. The overdrive clutches had just a little discoloration and that was it. It had never given me any trouble, I just wanted to make sure it didn't.
I'm not taking any credit and don't deserve any. It's just the way the manufacturing tolerances happened to come together on my particular unit. It sounds like you got a good one, too. Some of them are junk after 30k miles.
I AM sorry to hear about your trans, but it sounds like you got a lot of good use out of that one.

Ha!, When Brian tore mine down he showed me how he was able to flake off the 1st & 3rd gear rings with his fingernails, they were that thin......
Drove down from Dayton crossing my fingers the whole time. On the last 10-15 miles of road leading to his shop I had to floor it down the hills just to make it back up the other side.
Wish I had brought my fishing pole, didn't realize Bull Shoals was just down the road.
Mine lasted until 298K. It was actually still OK. All I did was snap the input shaft at the converter engagement area. Had it gone through and updated anyway.
The Previous owner delivered trailers around the states and had the trans serviced every 35,00 miles at a dealer. When I bought the truck almost 5 years ago I was still able to get 58,000 miles on it till now.
Well I finally got the transmission rebuilt inexpensively, the tranny shop was able to keep my tugger kit in and i'm back in business. I wasn't able to do a BTS, way out of my price range, I did do a cooler back flush and got all kinds of junk. Just to be on the safe side I installed a inline magnetic filter in the return line. Hope to get 100K+ on this rebuild then get a good tranny.
