Since I slammed the DDM ones I will say that they do make an excellent light source for offroad use.

That is ebay conversions filled with DDM HIDs. If you wanted something similar for your newer trucks i would put the H3 HIDs in something like KC Daylighter...

Anxious to hear if anyone has tried these. I'm afraid the quality of the lamps/ballasts must be pretty poor to be able to sell them for what they are asking.

Anyone tried these? Photos and thoughts please if so....

"done right" is using proper projectors that are designed to use the different focal point a HID bulb makes. You can buy a normal halogen projector, but these will glare just as bad as the idiots that stick HID bulbs in normal reflector beam lamps (what the SD has stock)

Your retrofix with FX projectors looks great B&L

I guess I'm confused by your comment...why would anyone buy a halogen projector for an HID bulb? That makes no sense at all...

No projector lenses. Just plug and play replacement bulbs from my local flea market.

With over 1900 post on this forum, I'm going to assume that you know how terrible of an idea it is to put a HID bulb/balast setup in a standard halogen reflector type housing (our SD's stock setup) due to it blinding oncoming cars.

Blinding oncoming drivers is even worse when a HID bulb/ballast is installed in a halogen projector because of the superior light projection over a normal reflector beam setup. Our trucks don't come with the halogen projector option, but plenty of cars do, and some people simply install HID bulb/ballast in these projectors.

Now, Hopefully people that buy those cheesy ebay "halo projector" setups availible for our SD's are smart enough to buy the one designed for HID's as opposed to the standard halogen ones that are a few bucks cheaper. And hopefully the chineese manufacturers of these terrible terrible looking lights are putting different projectors in the HID lamps instead of making a bazillion of the exact same thing, then adding HID bulbs/ballast to some and charging more for them. I'm doubtful of the later.

I'll be doing the FX projectors in my truck some day, they throw light the best out of all the projector's I've seen.

Did you even read the thread? I'm trying to find the type of projectors that I want from my truck...I never said I planed to install them without projectors. Your point was already covered by Otahyoni.

I feel honored to have 25% of your entire post dedicated to me Merry Christmas

I did, and I was making a blanket statement to ALL readers who might be considering increasing the lame output the factory lights have. You were quoted, but you were not targeted.

However, I would like to comment directly towards you and your order with DDM tuning. Jim Powell, the owner of DDM is/was a pretty good guy, but the company sells a pretty crappy product with their HID kits. Peruse a few BMW forums and read how DDM has steadily declined in quality over the past 10 years. Bimmerforums used to have a subforum just for DDM to meddle it's products, but have since dumped them just as the rest of DDM's loyal customers have.

Caveat emptor.

HID, another thing on my list of things to do, probably end up going with a D2S Bi-Xenon kit with 4300k Phillips bulbs inside of FX-R 3" housings to retrofit into stock housings.

I ordered mine here - The Retrofit Source online: headlight upgrades for all applications as part of a 25% off group buy here - Discussion Topics - Tacoma World Forums

Some other good links -

HiDplanet : The Official Automotive Lighting Forum

HID plug n play fails govt test

The last link is a pretty good case against putting HID bulbs in the stock halogen housings, and why it's causing the gov't to crack down on HIDs.

Lots of good reading there too about why going with 10K lights is a REALLY bad idea.
