AOD

How do I remove this external shift linkage?

[IMG][/IMG]

This one I don't care about, it needs to be switched with one that is for a '83 F150 AOD, that is mounted the exact opposite.

Never have done it on a AOD, but on the c4 you have to take the pan off and take the valve body loose. Yes it's a little scary, try not to lose any small parts. It would also be a good idea to change the o-rings up in there. It's the only way to change them out and they do get old and leak after awhile.

I will see if I can verify you have to do the same with the AOD.

Need to pull the trans pan for that. There's a large nut on the inside that holds the linkage in. Take note on how the spring that's on the shaft is, it's for the kick-down (small shaft that runs through that one). There's also a bracket for the parking pawl attached to it along with a pin that has to be re-aligned with a shaft that goes into the valve body. When installing the different shaft, be careful not to tighten too much as the threaded portion can break off.

Almost forgot, there's a small pin that goes into the case that holds that shaft in place (shaft has a groove in it). It goes into the case in the same direction as the pan bolts. You'll see it when you pull the pan.

If you need to, snap a pic of how everything is before pulling it apart.

Good time to replace the two seals in there too. One in the trans case for the larger shaft and a small one that's pressed into the larger linkage for the small shaft.

On the AOD, you do not have to pull the valve body, but it does make it easier to do.

I believe you are trying to remove #134. Is #142 a keeper pin for that? If it is, it's probably in the cavity under the oil pan.

Sounds easy enough... I do need to switch pans and change the filter anyway.
I know thats a common leak spot. Thanks.
