Changed the tranny out in my 05 f350 and decided to go ahead and change my motor oil to 10-30 motorcraft diesel oil now im getting a low oil pressure on my gauge cluster message if its idling the gauge is bottomed out but if im drivin the gauge reads normal this has happened a few times in the past but shortly started workin after about 10 miles of driving and sumbody correct me if im wrong but if the truck didnt have oil pressure it wouldnt run right would it
The instrument cluster gauge sensor is behind the oil filter and is about useless, it only reads 7 psi. The hpoil system sensor is on the front passenger valve cover and can only be read by a monitor device or a scanner. 500 psi min. to start. The low pressure system can only be read accureately by a mechanical test gauge thru a port on the bottom front of the oil filter houseing. 45 psi min.
I had similar issue after switching to syn. 5W-40. No oil preasure reported sometimes going 75mph too. Replaced oil pressure sensor fixed it. My sensor
wire leads were covered in oil too.
Put the new sensor in still the same low oil pressure message and gauge drop
I would verify (by a real gauge) your oil pressure.
Anything above 7psi and your idiot dash gauge will read in the mid normal range on the dash. Anything below 7psi will cause the dash gauge to read at the bottom of the scale and trigger a light.
I actually have a real Autometer Oil Pressure gauge and read it from the top of my billet aluminum cap.
Started doin it last winter truck started much better and not much injector sticktion to my knowledge ive only had to change 3 injectors since ive owned the truck and ive put 170k on it but i have replaced many other parts including the motor 3 days after i bought it but ford covered the motor replacement
