So this is my first time posting but my truck is doing some funky stuff and it has me scratching my head. Ill give a bit off background info on it. Its a 99 f350 7.3 auto with 113k miles. i bought it an an auction last winter for cheep and only heard it run and never drove it (mistake number one). I loaded it on a trailer and towed it home. i did some basic maintenance to it and changed the breaks, shocks and cleaned it up nice before i took it on the road. When i took it for a drive for the first time it was low on power and all i heard was hssssssss. like a big air leak. So i found a big hole in the up pipes so i replaced them. On my second attempt on the road it seemed like the truck would accelerate to about 20 mph and them fall flat on its face and not want to go any faster than that for about 10-15 seconds, than all of a sudden something slowly kicks in and the truck get some power and will accelerate like normal. So what do you guys think is this a boost problem or a HPOP problem. id find it hard to be a HPOP problem considering the miles are so low but i don't know. So what do you guys think?
i would check the fuel PSI to make sure the pump is good and the filter in the tank is not clogged.
dose the SEC light come on? if not im thinking fuel problems
The SEC doesn't come on so if there is an active code id assume its a soft code. I ordered an AE scan tool and ill have it by noon tomorrow so i guess ill scan it and see if there are any active codes.
How cold is it there. Sometimes and I'm in Fl so it don't get too cold here but if its in the 30s or 20s my ebpv will still be closed causing no power then it will slowly open and boom power. Thats only if I'm in a super rush and and don't let er warm up enough. Just a suggestion from the HSSSSSSSSSS ing you mentioned. If its really cold in your neck of the woods that might be your problem. Start and idle, you should hear the ebpv close to warm up hissing out the exhaust, when it opens and hissing stops, go for a drive and see if your problem is cured
Is this acting up when u crank and go ? Or is the engine up to operating temp when this is happening? Is it only the first time out each day or everytime u take off? Any smoke? How is the oil quality?
I had one that the injectors were bad on and it would run like u describe if I tried to crank and go. If i let it warm up first and then take off, it ran normal all the time.
