filter cover for 6637

Hey guys just ordered the 6637 kit from riffraff and was curios if anybody who has it, do you run it with a cover or without it? and does running it with the filter cover create a lot of restriction in flow? thanks

the cover does not restrict the flow. using it helps keep the big junk out if the filter.

The cover creates no measurable restriction, and adds a washable element to your filter extending filter life.

Plus it looks cool.

i got 5 years and 60,000 miles out of the first filter on my 02. it was still i good shape, and fairly clean, but i changed it anyway because i had the new filter.
the cover keeps most of the dirt out.

are you running a stock turbo???If so then I agree no problem..38R or bigger I wouldn't use the 6637 let alone a pre filter...The 6637 is only rated to 450 cfm( I may stand corrected), The AFE Big Boost is rated to 800 cfm ( I believe) eather filter with the 38R and I would suck the minder light with no problem, a lot worse with the cover.....Just my .02

Panty hose with the legs tied off makes a fine prefilter. And free if your wife/gf/gal next to you in line at Starbucks is willing.

One of my customers did some preliminary testing (several years back) on a Flow Bench, and he found that the cover created about a 2% air flow reduction at 1,000 cfm flow rate through a 6637. The fabric used in that test is the exact same as what is used today.

You have to remember, too, that the "flow ratings" are at a specific level of vacuum between the filter element and the turbo inlet. During the testing referenced above, the 6637 physically held up to the level of vacuum created by the flow bench, but the amount of power required to induce that level of vacuum obviously exceeds the capability of a stock turbo. Just speculating here, but even a 38R may not be able to pull 1,000 cfm through the filter as well, unless you get more surface area on the filter element.
