she fired up just fine this morning... then she sat long enough to completely cool off.
went to fire up and all it would do was click.
replaced with new duralast gold from vato zone.
will tear into starter and see if its worth rebuilding.
lasted 401,899 miles. it was the factory unit.
there was zero sign that it was about to go out. just worked ... and then didnt.
what have you guys been replacing with?
and for you guys who get that deep into it... anyone recommend a certain rebuild kit ?
If your 2000 is like mine, it uses a three-bolt Mitsubishi type. The on-board solenoid is usually the first thing to go on these, and is available as a separate piece-part.
The brushes are pretty hard, and may not be completely worn out.
The planetary gear-reduction section needs new lubricant, too.
I've been running this 5.2HP Denso starter for 4yrs now? Its a monster!! Don't get the china 'knock-off' version though... Or if ya wanna try one, you can have this new-in-box one I have for $100 shipped.
im liking how crisp this new starter fires up the motor. takes less cranking time now... a second or less and she's running whereas it took a few seconds on it before.
i paid the 10$ core so i could rebuild mine if possible as a spare... and after taxes it came to 194$ and coins. lifetime warranty im not complaining.

Yeah, my arm still hurts from installing it... Need to do more 12oz curls I guess!
The lifetime warranty is fine, as long as ya don't have to replace it every couple months. The small starter in pic is a NAPA unit. When the 3rd one failed, I bought this bad boy. The 4rth NAPA starter has been doing a good job in the X for about 30k miles now - I put it in the X after the knock-off Denso failed after a dozen starts... DB Electrical sent me a new knock-off with a letter saying they would not replace it again...

duralast gold from vato zone. opted for a new one... they wanted 180$ core for a 150$ remanufactured starter. core for the brand new starter was only 10$.
Thanks. Hope it lasts. I have had a reman on mine for at least two years, po put it on. Not sure who's it is, but he bought a lot of stuff at Advance Auto. I want to be ready for whenever.
