I think I've seen some stands advertised up to 4k... you wouldn't know what to look for in a stand and hoist would you?

I have a 1K capacity stand that holds a fully assemebled 400 with aluminum intake & headers, no accessories just fine. No perceptible sagging or bending. Just make sure you get the one with 2 legs not the one with a single leg and a horizontal cross piece on the front of it.

GT40man---- are you saying that you have a 400-4bbl cast iron intake? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Ther are other reasons to turn a crank even though there seems to be no wear on the journals. They can get egg shaped but still seem to have no wear. Egg shaped journals are not a good thing to have.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------A fully assembled 400 will weigh around 600-700 lbs.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Crawlfish, you will save lots of money by dissassembling the motor yourself and getting the parts as clean as you possibly can. This will also put you in good standing with the guys at the machine shop. There's nothing worse than for you to bring in a filthy, grimey, caked with dirt and motor oil motor to a machine shop, They'll be cussing you and your momma as soon as you walk back out the door.

a fully assembled 351M/400 engine weighs about 575 pounds. now when you add the accessories like alt, ps, etc, it will go higher.

no i did not say i have a 4V stock intake. i said a stock intake is heavy, and one is better off getting a 4V egr plate and aluminium intake. I have a 4V 351C single plan intake on my 400.

i preferweiand intakes over edelbrock, but can rem/2lazy to check, if they have a 4V egr plate as well.

Damn, I thought I was going to luck out and find someone who'd actually seen a factory 400 4 bbl intake other than me. I agree with you that the Weiand intake is a better one than the Edelbrock. I had bought an Edelbrock at first, then sold it when I saw the Weiand I have now.

Most are recommending a "dual plane" intake. What is the "plane" being referenced... that is what's the diff and why would it matter for a 351m?

Thanks. So a 2k or 4k engine stand is plenty.

When I tried to put mine on 750lb rated stand it bent it like a coat hanger!

Hey Baddad, sorry for not replying earlier. Somehow missed the post on the bring it to em clean. Never even crossed my mind, but now that you said it, I could do that.

Just assumed (you not what that makes me), that the men in white coats connected a pristine clean lifting yoke to the motor and just dipped it into a big vat, pulled it out squeeky clean and laughing mightily at how dirty the backyarders got trying to do the same thing!

Maybe I just had a P.O.S. stand then.

Well, I'm laughing at that response Cartwright. Could be. Could be. Hey, that's why I asked. It's like that floor jack I bought a couple years back. At first, it was no issue having to put a little effort into lifting the car with it, but hey, I did a brake job and after having to move it near all four wheels to get the car on stands and then having to repeat the process twice more I didn't care much for it anymore.

Of course now, I got this rapid rise 3.5 ton jobber and hauling that heavy thing around is about as much fun as tying a bag of cement around my neck.

I will only buy the 1250 pound engine stands
The will hold any ford engine and they do not bend like the 750lbs ones do !
The 351m/400 engines are heavy so be carefull when you pull it out - make sure all the bolts are tight on the lifting chain !~
