I'm all for welding to cast, but welding .090 wall to cast is another thing all together.
I am not talking about the cast collector but the steel sleeve that is bolted to the collector in which the donut sits in between

This can hold for a short time but eventually the oil will work its way past the o-ring and it will leak.

I guess that is why Garrett changed the design in 99.

I think if I still owned one of the OBS trucks, I would always have an extra set of pedestal o-rings sitting around since it's such a PIA!
This sounds like my truck. Just pulled the turbo to install e-fuel and it was leak free for almost a week. I hate to have to pull that turbo again! Is there a possibility that the pedestal bolts backed out? They were loose when I pulled the turbo, leak free for two years since I swapped the D66 in. Is there a torque spec for thos bolts? Thanks for any help and advice!

18 foot pounds for the pedestal bolts. The two rear bolts were backed out 2-3 turns each. I'm sure that I tightened them the first time. Weird.
