I have a 84 f150 with a 302 engine, when I bought the truck the engine had been replaced with another 302, not sure what year my current engine is. the problem is that when I first start the truck it runs fine. when I drive it down the road, about 1/4 mile, the engine dies! When I try to re start, the motor turns over but will not start. If I keep trying, it will eventually start and sometimes it will happen again, sometimes it will run fine after only one episode.
I initially thought this was a problem with my carb, now I'm not sure, could maybe be an electrical problem.
Does anybody have any ideas or troubleshooting advice as to how I can isolate between the ignition and carb system???
Jeff, the next time it stalls, remove the air cleaner and look at the two nozzles in the carb throat. When you advance the throttle, fuel should spurt from them. If no fuel is present, then look at it being a clogged fuel filter or bad fuel pump.
If fuel is present, then you've isolated the trouble to the spark, most likely a faulty ignition module.......
