50/50 weight distribution, good tires, tight steering, & PERFECT brakes. F&R anti-sway bars and HD shocks would be good, too.

Well ill tell you how we run them amd use what you want. You want the truck as light as you can and all the weight you can add to the front and as far out as rules will allow. Our truck is so heavy in the front you have to hold the rear down to turn.Heavy shocks will help and if your running a 10.25 reae make sure to weld the tubes in the center housing.I have seen them turn straight up.If this is not a street truck and rules will allow it make the rear suspension solid. We used 2 inch square tubing and done away with the leafs. You want tne front to work and the rear to stay put.Hope this helps.

A spool is STRICTLY for off-road use. It would actually hurt your towing ability on-road, in addition to causing unnecessary stress on the axle & steering. You'd catch @#$%@#$ trying to back a trailer on pavement with a spool.

A spool will work fine as long as the truck is not drove on the street.Ours is welded in rear with trac loc in front. You will need somthing in the front like a locker but do not weld the front.

What gear ratio do you run or suggest. I have 35'' BFG tires and was thinking of putting 5.13s gears in. Is this too low??

By the way it sounds to me, onetonford was talking about competition pulls. However, It is unclear from the original post what kind of towing is being desired.

about the gears,
if you have an OD transmition and plan to tow in OD, than that would be about perfect. If you don't have an OD trans or don't plan to tow in OD then you would be best to stick with something lower, possibly 4:10-4:56

The best fit ratio will also change dramatically depending on what you plan or don't plan on doing to your engine.

What speed do you feel comfortable towing at? If you towing 10,000lbs you probably wont want to tow 85mph to often.

Yes im talking about hooking to a sled pulling. If you have enough engine to pull 5.38s it will be fine. You want wheel speed, the faster you can spin them the more you will pull.If it is a stock engine i would sugest 4.56.You have to have a lot of horsepower to pull 5.38s.

Yes, I too am talking about hooking to the sled. I was wrong I to have a ford 10.25 in the rear. What are you talking about when you say weld the center tubes?? And for welding the rear end any helpful tricks? My old girl is coming together thanks for you help...! Only 3 weeks left I best stay moving.

The tubes are just pressed in the center section.Weld around the center in short sections swapping sides so you dont get it to hot.The reason for this is ive seen the center section turn straight up from the force on it. As for the rear Ive had best luck pulling the carrier and weld the spider gears to each other. Im sure if you ask around some locall weld shops they have probably done one before.
Hope this helps and good luck.
