ok so i have called compcams and edelbrock and they wont give me a clear answer to my question. so im going to ask you guys. i am ordering Edelbrock Performer RPM Cylinder Heads 60058, they are bare, i have High Energy™, 268H: Cam & Kit for my my motor. i want to use this rocker assembly COMP Cams Ford FE Shaft Rockers 1046-KIT. my question is will this bolt to these heads and work with my cam. will stock rocker stands work? are my springs to small or big? please let me know.
I know you can use a comp 268 with the stock heads and valvetrain with the correct valve springs. Honestly one of your best bets to get a good answer is to go to FORDFE.com and post a thread there about this. Ask for Barry or Brent and I'm sure they could answer this question. I know Barry has done extensive research and work with heads for the FE including the edelbrocks.
I have a 1978 Ford F150 with a 460 non-emission. Everything is stock including the original carb. I got truck from 1st owner. 93k miles. Engine is slugish for a 460, but know that they choked them in the late 70's.
I would like to put an Edelbrock carb, but not sure which one to use. Edelbrock recommended a 600cfm. I was thinking 750cfm. Tech advised i have throttle response issues with the 750.
Any professional ideas or suggestions will be appreciated.
If everything is stock then I'd assume that you have the stock 2barrel intake. You'd have to swap in a square bore 4 barrel intake to use and edelbrock or Holley carb, or atleast to really get the full use out of it.
If youre going to leave it stock, i would stick with the 600-650cfm range. However if you plan to wake it up some, cam, headers, intake, decent heads. Then by all means get the 750, but yes stock it will be hesitant with big toilet on there, at least in the lower rpms.
When I bought mine it had a 600. I jetted it to pass emmissions and so far it has been good. Also had another truck and it had a 750 and a 600 at various times and I couldn't really tell the difference. Unless you have some plans down the road I think the 600 will be fine.
