Smile FICM Question

As usual I need help....I just tested my FICM and voltage checks were good. The problem is I had my block heater plugged in. Would that fact give a false or good reading ? And should I unplug it and check again, and if so how long should I wait before checking it again? The outside temp here is dropping and it is currently 40 degrees. Thanks in advance for the coming help. Someone always pulls my fat out of the fire.

Block heater has no effect or impact on FICM. Totally separate. Only effect might be less current draw while cranking engine to start cold. If your batteries are good, that won't be an issue. FWIW it's currently 17 degrees here, and I won't be plugging my 6.0 in tonight...

How are you doing the test? Probe on the FICM? Or a monitor?

I found my FICM issue when cold. Block not plugged in. So, I wouldn't plug it in and do a check in the morning.

Here is what Mine would do:

For the rest of the day, when the motor was warmed up, it read 47-48v. Looks good right?

I wouldn't start the truck until it climbed up to 47-48v. It finally was starting at 30v then climb to 48 in 10 seconds.

If you are using a probe, make sure someone is in the truck turning the key on when you are ready.

I am checking with probes. Had the wife turn key on and so forth.
