2005 X Limited 4x4 with 80,000 miles and I'm pretty sure my non serviceable bearing units are bad. Vibration and growling at 50 thru 70 mph.
Any one replaced their OEM's with the SKF from rockauto or Napa? Only 80,000 on OEM seems pretty low.
Thanks
It happens. Just be sure that the growling is not noise from your tire tread getting thinner. Pull the wheels and calipers and turn the bearings. Listen for grinds and or clicks.
The best Unit Bearing hubs for the Ex are Timkins. Online is usually the best bet.
I got mine from Rockauto, which has the best prices usually. Much cheaper.
Edit: There is also the possibility that the noise is the front axle shaft bearings in the hubs. They are cheap, replaceable and are a item that is supposed to be greased at intervals, but hardly anyone does.
The tires only have about 10000 miles, they are BFG rugged trails and I hate em, Do not stay in balance, noisy and you can feel every rock on the road.
I have had 2 shops check the front bearings and I have checked by the typical fasion. Jack up and check for play. NONE, rotate and check for grinding, NONE. pulled wheels and brakes and checked for play. NONE
X runs smooth till 50, then a growling starts and a vibration through the steering wheel. then at 70 it goeas away. driving me nuts!
I checked them for play but they also seem tight, greased em up. no differance. I guess the only way to be sure is tear it all apart and start replacing. U joints deffinatly less expensive.
