It's supposed to cycle on and off with the A/C on. You may have a low charge if it's spinning continuously. Turn the A/C off and see if it stops turning. If not, then the clutch is seized and not disengaging. Time for a new clutch or compressor at that point.

ok thanks! it doesn't turn all the time, it kicks in and out with the a/c on and off. just wondering because i've heard belt squealing seems to be coming from that point

You might be needing a new belt. When the A/C compressor kicks in it creates an extra load, the squeaking could come from that.

If the belt is slipping then yes. How old is the tensioner?

Replace the belt, and get a steel idler pulley, I did and haven't had a problem with it ever since.

The Goodyear Gatorback belt is an amazing product, I would get either that or a Bando, which is pretty good too.

No idea, I've just had my Gatorback for quite a while now and it still works amazingly well.

I like the name Gatorback...I seen the Dayco belt on auto zones website, and watched a video on the belt, its a new belt Dayco designed. It looked like a good belt. They also have a no slack idler pulley i'm thinking about getting, its made out steel. The good thing is they say Dayco is made in the USA
