how much tension should be on the belt? i can almost take the belt off by hand. When i press down on the belt, the tensioner moves up and down

Dayco tensioners are garbage. Gates are sturdier and include a steel pulley. The Gatorback belt is made by Goodyear, although they are very hard to find in retail stores. Rockauto.com sells them. I have the standard Gates belt and tensioner on mine and now it's silent.

On my 302 I have to use a ratchet wrench to pull the tensioner if I want to take out the belt.
