Some of you might have seen me around this section of the forum once or twice asking about the idi trucks. Well just thought I'd share the truck I picked up today
1987 F250 XL super cab/long bed
Stock 6.9 IDI
ZF5
2wd
150k miles
Body has seen better days. It was used as a farm truck for most of it's life. Paint is faded, has some scratches, and the bed has more dents than the dentside section of the forum...
Running gear is strong. Has a new clutch and clutch fork, engine doesn't leak or burn oil. I'll need to replace the tires, but for the time being I'm just going to swap on the wheels and tires from my '79 because it's parked for the winter.
All in all I think it was a good deal. I paid $800 for it, and got a full tank of diesel from the seller. Drove great on the hour drive home on the freeway.
yeah what a sweet deal.he'll like having this to go along with his 460 truck.the fuel gauge wont be racing the speedo.
looks overall nice straight and solid to boot.if i were mine,i wouldn't have parted with it for less than 2k with a new clutch and 150k miles.easy 1500 truck all day long. though i would keep it before parting with her first haha. and im not really into the 8th gen.but a good deal just can't be beat.
did real good Jameson.you'll have that one for years most likely.
edit,oh you were actually looking at it for it's zf5 trans for your truck?well the price would have been right for it,but it could have ended up just being a whole truck swap for ya!
Well I found out that after I got all the lugs cracked on both front tires on both the trucks (32 lug nuts), got them on jack stands, and one tire off each one, that the studs are different sizes The turbine mags that I have on my project use collared lug nuts, so I couldn't use the ones that came with the 87.
Luckily, I had a set of 4 10 spoke wagon wheels with good tires off my '78 parts truck that used the same type of lug nuts at the 87, so I was able to get them to work. I haven't gotten a picture yet because by the time I finished, it was dark out. The truck looks a lot better now, and it'll be nice having 4 matching tires with tread rather than 4 mismatched tires with 2 being bald
Non really in the lowlands. The mountains have been getting slammed by storms the past few days though (21" on Wednesday night, 39" Friday night). Saturday morning we had an interesting mix of thick hail, followed by a rain/snow mix. Roads got nasty quick.
ya it raining on 4 inches of snow here right now. I have an appointment in town Tuesday. That's an hour and a half one way on some of the worst gravel roads in the world. I just hope it is rained off or snows again tomorrow as I don't have studs. I got near new snow tires that came with the rig. But without studs it ain't even fun on the pak-ice at all.
